Apply for an internship with the Press Skits (deadline passed)

Student Internship Program

Florida Capitol Press Club’s Annual Press Skits

The application deadline has passed.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Capitol Press Club of Florida is a diverse group of journalists who cover the seat of state government in Tallahassee. Each year, the press club produces and stars in the Capitol Press Club Skits, which pokes fun at politicians to raise money for the Barbara L. Frye Scholarship Fund. The comedy variety show features skits, videos and parody songs created and performed by Tallahassee journalists. The Capitol Press Club is looking to hire student interns to assist our adult amateur actors with the 2017 production. This director is Terrence Pride.

Interviews for select applicants will be held the week of Nov. 28. The positions available are:

  • Assistant Director/Stage Manager ($500 stipend)
  • Musical Director ($500 stipend)

Both positions will be paid in two installments: half on Jan. 30 and the other half after successful completion of the show and wrap-up duties.

Students chosen to participate in the internship program will assist with the production of the annual Florida Capitol Press Club Skits on March 14, 2017. There will be approximately one dozen rehearsals and meetings from December through March, with time demands increasing closer to the show. Student interns are expected to attend all rehearsals unless absences are cleared with the press club liaison and excused in advance. Multiple absences or unsatisfactory performance may result in dismissal from the internship program. The assistant director should be someone who will remain in Tallahassee and be willing to become skits director in 2018.
